Is there a 'Detective Linda Mysteries' in the mix?

22 Feb

I’m feverishly trying to finish book II, ‘Pride and Perilous’ (look for a couple more sample chapters in the next two months), and I keep thinking I’d love to do a spinoff, a ‘Detective Linda Mysteries’ set in and around New Hope with Detective Linda Sikorsky. She’s in New York City in this second book and helps Kyle as he tries to solve the Pride Gallery murders before another victim is killed. They make a good team, but I wonder … might she not make a good central character of her own? And why not write a series with a lesbian detective at the center? Women are now writing gay mysteries (quite a few of them). It’s fiction, for godsake! We’re free to write what we’re capable of writing, and if I could pull it off, I’d love to get a second series going. Just a thought?

'Murder at Pride Lodge' now available on the Nook

12 Feb

I had to wait 90 days after making the book available as part of the Amazon lending library, something I won’t do again. Now you can also purchase ‘Murder at Pride Lodge’ on the Nook. And you don’t need a Nook to read it!  I have the free Nook app on my iPad, and it works just fine. All it takes is an account with Barnes & Noble.

Happy Year of the Snake!

10 Feb

sname I’ve always found Chinese astrology more interesting that the Western zodiac. I don’t believe any of it, but I’d rather be a dog than a scorpion. So it is with aplomb that we welcome you to the Year of the Snake!  And while I’m a screamer when it comes to snakes, they have been unfairly maligned, all the way back to Adam and Eve.  I wonder if it comes from the days when we lived in trees and snakes ate our babies. Anyway, here are some characteristics of snakes, according to Chinese astrology.  Happy new year to all you snakes out there.

From China Travel Guide.com:

Strengths
They often have a good temper and a skill at communicating but say little. They possess gracious morality and great wisdom. They are usually financially secure and do not have to worry about money. They have tremendous sympathy for others and would like to take actions to help ther fellow human beings. They are determined to accomplished their goals hate to fail. Although they look calm on the surface, they are intense and passionate. They have a rich source of inspiration and understand themselves well. They are people of great perception. Women under the sign of the snake do well in housework but are irritable.

Weaknesses
They are likely to be jealous and suspicious. They should be cautious about what they discuss with others, as it might cause them to lose friendship and opportunities. They tend to overdo things. They prefer to rely on themselves and have doubts about other people’s judgment. They are courteous  with polite manners, but they can be headstrong. They are fickle and usually have problems in relationships or marriage problems.

'5 of a kind' short story collection re-issued

9 Feb

I’ve decided a couple things lately: 1) all my e-books will be available for $4.50, old, new, and in the future. I think the whole xx.99 thing is part of a herd mentality and in a way insults our intelligence. I know perfectly well that a book for $6.99 is costing me $7, so let’s cut the outdated, marketer-driven .99 cent nonsense. I am not in any way more inclined to buy anything, let alone a book, because I’ve been tricked by the price to think it’s a dollar cheaper.

2) I’ll be promoting them all, regardless of sales. I’ve added a new cover to my second short story collection from 2011, 5 of a kind, and intend to compile a ‘best of’ with three new, bonus stories and hope to get that out by year’s end. It’s very much about writing while my fingers still function, my mind still wanders, and my heart still beats with passion.  Look for all this and more in a year that promises to be very productive.
